OUR BOSTON SKILL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM IS OPEN FOR REGISTRATION!!
FALL/WINTER 2010-11

WHAT IS CLADDAGH SKILL DEVELOPMENT?

Claddagh Skill Development is the optimal off-season training program for lacrosse players.  We use a comprehensive, position-specific skill curriculum to achieve our goal of successful skill development for each player.  While the spring and summer seasons are focused on team play and concepts, the off-season is the time when players need to address and improve their individual skill sets.  In our Skill Development program, our staff of NCAA coaches and professional players will put each player on a progressive, graded plan to facilitate maximum skill acquisition during these off months.

Features of the Skill Development program:
  • Progressive curriculum of fundamental to advanced skills
  • 1-on-1 evaluations with each player
  • Leveling based on appropriate age, skill, and experience
  • Opportunity to develop skills at least 1x per week in the off-season during other sports
  • Experienced and reputable staff of coaches
Instruction will be given on these topics:
  • Shooting progression (on the run vs. time and room, deception, shooting technique)
  • Dodging progression (1-on-1 technique, 'when' to use 'what' dodge)
  • Offensive footwork and positioning
  • 2-0n-2 Offensive play (setting picks, making cuts, etc.)
  • Defensive footwork and positioning
  • 1-on-1 and 2-on-2 defense (playing through picks, communication, etc.)
  • Stick checks
  • Ground ball technique
  • Faceoffs and wingplay
  • AND MUCH MORE!

SKILL DEVELOPMENT COACHES
Our Experienced Staff

NOLAN GODFREY
Claddagh Lacrosse Director

Coach Godfrey has been a fixture in Massachusetts lacrosse for several years.  He was an All-American midfielder at Merrimack College, also leading the nation in ground balls and ranking second nationally in faceoff percentage while collecting All-Conference and All-New England Honors.

He was later a first-round selection of the world champion Philadelphia Barrage in the Major League Lacrosse (MLL) supplemental draft and has experience in the Boston Cannons organization of MLL.  Godfrey has played three seasons of box lacrosse in Canada, most recently at the Senior-A level for the Nanaimo Timbermen of the Western Lacrosse Association in British Columbia. He was named to the Team USA indoor developmental team in 2008 and competed at the Warriors Cup in Ontario.

In addition to operating two national lacrosse camp companies, Godfrey has toured Europe, coaching the last two summers in Spain, Italy, Holland, Switzerland, Scotland, and Finland. His other coaching appointments include work as an assistant coach at Saint Anselm College (NCAA Division II) and founding two Massachusetts high school programs, at Central Catholic High School and Haverhill High School.  He also coached at Billerica High School in Massachusetts, where he helped lead the boys’ lacrosse team to the Division 1 state final in 2008.  Godfrey's latest coaching stop has been in the Dallas area as the Plano Senior High School boys head coach.

JOEL BATES
FIELD DIRECTOR
Assistant Coach at Nashoba HS (MA)

Coach Bates has made a lifetime of lacrosse through playing and coaching.  The Long Island native shined as a collegiate star at both perennial national championship contender C.W. Post as well as Molloy College.  At Molloy, he was named All-Conference in the very competitive NYCAC.  Coach Bates was a standout player at Kellenberg Memorial High School in New York, and played at the post-collegiate level with the prestigious Long Island Hofstra Lacrosse Club.

Not only a fine player, Coach Bates has excelled in the coaching ranks as well.  He is a former NCAA assistant coach at Molloy College and has since honed his coaching skills at Malverne High School (NY) and now is part of the Nashoba Valley Regional High School staff.  Bates has also coached in two youth systems in New York (Long Beach and Baldwin) and is a veteran instructor at the Adelphi Lacrosse Camp.
